Tropical Depression Three-C forms southeast of the Hawaiian Islands

Tropical Depression Three-C has formed southeast of the Hawaiian Islands.

As of 11am HST the center of tropical depression was located near latitude 11.o north and longitude 150.2 west. The depression is moving toward the west near 16 mph. A west to west-northwest motion is expected over the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts. Three-C is expected to steadily strengthen and may become a hurricane within the next 48 hours.

Currently 685 miles SSE of Hilo and 720 miles SSE of Kailua-Kona.

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
