Hawaiʻi County DUI Stats: May 2-8

During the week of May 2, through May 8, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 17 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident while two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far in 2022, there have been 375 DUI arrests compared with 459 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18.3 percent.

There have been 270 major accidents thus far in 2022 compared with 282 during the same period in 2021,  decrease of 4.3 percent.

To date, there were 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with eight fatal crashes, resulting in eight fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 50 percent for fatal crashes, and 75 percent for fatalities.
