Hawaiʻi County D.U.I. Statistics: May 18-24

During the week of May 18, through May 24, 2026, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 13 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident, while one of the drivers was under the age of 21.

So far in 2026, there have been 320 DUI arrests compared with 298 during the same period in 2025, an increase of 7.38 percent.

The Hawai‘i County Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 386 major crashes so far this year, compared with 415 major crashes during the same time last year, a decrease of 6.99 percent.

As of May 24, there have been 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities (one died at a later date; and two had multiple deaths) compared with 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year. This is a decrease of 8.33 percent for fatal crashes.

In 2026, the non-traffic fatality count (not on a public roadway) was zero, compared to zero non-traffic fatalities for the same time last year.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
