HPD Announces 24 Promotions

Police Chief Reed Mahuna has promoted 24 employees within the Hawai‘i County Police Department effective today.

The promotions include one to the rank of Captain, one to the rank of Lieutenant, three to the rank of Detective, five to the rank of Sergeant, and 14 to the rank of Police Officer III.

Among those promoted is Lieutenant Bobbi-Jo Sagon, who has been promoted to the rank of captain and assigned to the South Kohala District.

Captain Sagon has served with the Hawaiʻi Police Department for more than 20 years, beginning her career as a patrol officer in South Kohala. She later served in the Criminal Intelligence Unit before being promoted to detective in 2016, where she worked in both the Area I Criminal Investigation Section (CIS) and Juvenile Aid Section. In 2021, she was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to Kona Patrol and then the Area II Juvenile Aid Section. She most recently served as lieutenant of the Records and Identification Section. In 2023, Captain Sagon graduated from the FBI National Academy.

Lieutenant

  • Lieutenant David Poohina is assigned to Area II CIS. He previously served as a detective in Area I CIS.

Detective

  • Detective Kupono Mata is assigned to Area I Juvenile Aid Section. He previously served as a police officer III in Vice – East.
  • Detective Wyatt Kaili-Leong is assigned to Area II Juvenile Aid Section. He previously served as a police officer III (K9) in Vice – East.
  • Detective Roberto Segobia is assigned to Area II CIS. He previously served as a police officer III (K9) in Vice – East.

Sergeant

  • Sergeant Joshua Gouveia is assigned to South Hilo patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in South Hilo patrol.
  • Sergeant Edward Lewis is assigned to Hāmākua He previously served as a school resource officer (police officer III) in South Kohala.
  • Sergeant Leonard Warren is assigned to South Kohala patrol. He previously served in the Community Policing Section of Kona patrol (police officer III).
  • Sergeant Brad Resureccion is assigned to Kaʻū patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in South Kohala patrol.
  • Sergeant Darren Abalos is assigned to Kaʻū patrol. He previously served in the Community Policing Section of South Hilo patrol (police officer III).

Police Officer III

  • Police Officer III Alric Dalere is assigned to Vice – East (K9). He previously served as a police officer II in South Hilo patrol.
  • Police Officer III Victor McLellan is assigned to Vice – East (K9). He previously served as a police officer II in South Hilo patrol.
  • Police Officer III Spencer Thomas is assigned to Vice – East. He previously served as a police officer II in Puna patrol.
  • Police Officer III Justin Uresti is assigned to Vice – West (K9). He previously served as a police officer II in South Kohala patrol.
  • Police Officer III Benhielden Del Toro is assigned to the Training Section. He previously served in the Community Policing Section of South Hilo patrol.
  • Police Officer III Roger Carvalho is assigned as a school resource officer in South Hilo patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in South Hilo patrol.
  • Police Officer III Christopher Barto is assigned to the Community Policing Section of South Hilo patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in South Hilo patrol.
  • Police Officer III Shane Hanley is assigned to the Community Policing Section of South Hilo patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in South Hilo patrol.
  • Police Officer III Calvin Furtado is assigned to the Community Policing Section of South Hilo patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in Puna patrol.
  • Police Officer III Damien Grace is assigned as a school resource officer in Puna patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in Puna patrol.
  • Police Officer III Eli Dominic Cayetano is assigned to the Community Policing Section of Kona patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in Kona patrol.
  • Police Officer III Dayn Suguitan is assigned as a school resource officer in South Kohala patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in South Kohala patrol.
  • Police Officer III Kuilee Dela Cruz is assigned as a school resource officer in South Kohala patrol. He previously served in the Community Policing Section of South Kohala patrol.
  • Police Officer III Michael Abran is assigned to the Community Policing Section of South Kohala patrol. He previously served as a police officer II in South Kohala patrol.
