On September 1, the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation delivered the first installment of a $75,000 grant to the Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary on behalf of the Kona Community Hospital Education Department Surgical Technology Program.

The mission of the KCH Surgical Technology Program, which launched its inaugural curriculum in August,  is to prepare students to become entry-level Surgical Technologists. Upon graduating from the 10-month program, students will have a strong foundation in the knowledge and skills to be essential members of a surgical team. The overall goal of this program and the hospital’s education department is to enhance education options for healthcare positions in the community.

“We’re very thankful for this generous grant. First Hawaiian Foundation’s commitment to endowing education opportunities aligns with the Auxiliary’s mission to raise funds for its annual scholarship program,” said Art Felix, Vice Chair of the KCH Auxiliary in a press release.
