Yesterday at 6:39 p.m, a magnitude-4.1 earthquake occurred on Kamaʻehuakanaloa (Lō‘ihi) volcano, 32 miles southeast of Nāʻālehu at a depth of 4.8 miles below sea level.

The earthquake, which had no apparent impact on either Mauna Loa or Kīlauea volcanoes, was preceded by M3.1 and M3.2 earthquakes on Kamaʻehuakanaloa. It is unknown whether these events were caused by any volcanic or intrusive activity on Kamaʻehuakanaloa. The quake posed no threat of a Tsunami. Aftershocks are possible and could be felt.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory continues to monitor Hawaiian volcanoes for any changes.
