Lava has  claimed hundreds of homes and of most of the Kapoho Beach Lots and Vacationland subdivisions.  Flows from fissure number eight in Leilani Estates continue to flow down slope through the Kapoha area and into the ocean.  An official release from the USGS states that “as of the morning of June 5, the fissure 8 lava flow lava has completely filled Kapoho Bay.”

Hawaii County officials have indicated that a majority of the Kapoho Beach Lots and Vacationland subdivisions have been consumed by lava.

It has been estimated that there were over 300 homes between the two subdivisions. An official count of homes destroyed is not available at this time.
