The world is approaching 1 million cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday morning, April 1 (no fooling), with  921,924 listed on the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard.  The United States has 206,207 cases.  Italy has 110,574, and Spain, at third, is listed at 102,179.

These figures are as of April 1, 2020 at 8:20 a.m.   The Dashboard updates frequently, as new data comes in.

The number of deaths worldwide is 46,252.  In the United States, the death toll has been growing and is now 4,542.  In the March 31 White House Briefing, President Trump reinforced the need for social distancing and said even with that, the United States may face at least 100,000 deaths and possibly as many as 240,000. But without the social distancing and hygiene measures, Trump said medical experts tell him the death toll could rise to 2 million.

New York State has the most deaths.  New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday that 391 people in New York State died of the coronavirus since Tuesday, bringing the state’s total to 1,941 and the total for the region of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to 2,381.  Cuomo said in the Wednesday briefing that New York State has 83,712 cases.
