As of Saturday morning, April 4, at 6:43 a.m. HST, the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard shows that worldwide, at least 1,159,515 people are  confirmed to have COVID-19, as a result of the novel coronavirus.  The United States now leads the count with 290,606 cases, and a reported 7,826 deaths.  Worldwide, reported deaths attributed to COVID-19 stand at 62,376.

Spain and Italy both have more than 124,000 cases  (Spain at 124,736 and Italy at 124,632).   Spain has at least 11,744 COVID-19 deaths, and Italy 15,362.

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard   updates frequently, with data coming in from around the world.

Johns Hopkins researcher Lauren Gardner in an interview with PBS Newshour several weeks ago said the data comes from multiple sources.  In some parts of the world the information is transmitted electronically by public health authorities.  In other parts of the world the researchers are collecting the data through media sources and then validating it before including those numbers.   Gardner said they started the interactive dashboard in mid January.
