People in recovery from addiction are often used to — and need — connections with others to help support them as they work to achieve sobriety. In the time of COVID-19, and with shutdowns, isolation, and social distancing…that no longer works. On the Big Island, several addiction recovery groups that are part of Alcoholics Anonymous have gone online. Everybody is invited to join, and as in face-to-face meetings, the members use only their first names, and otherwise remain anonymous.
There are two hotline numbers on the Big Island, for those who wish to talk or have questions. Many groups are now online using Zoom or other video conferencing apps. Members of AA in both West and East Hawaii urge anybody interested to call or email to get more information and to learn more about the practices of AA.
