The State of Hawaii Department of Health reports that as of noon on Wednesday, April 15, 13 additional positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed statewide, bringing the state’s total to 530.    The state’s total of 9 death is unchanged.  Forty five of the victims have required hospitalization.

Hawaii Island has 41 cases…the same count as on April 14.  Of these, DOH reports that 30 have been released from quarantine.  Previously Hawaii County Civil Defense had reported that nobody from Hawaii Island had required hospitalization.   However, in the Tuesday afternoon media briefing, State Health Director Bruce Anderson confirmed that one of the 12 known victims of COVID-19 associated with the employee at McDonald’s at Makala Blvd. in Kona, in Kona Commons Shopping Center, was transported to O’ahu and is hospitalized.  Anderson also said all of the victims, to that point, had already been counted in the total Hawaii Island cases, though additional employees and close contacts of the first victim were waiting for test results.

Of the 13 new cases, 11 are on O’ahu and 4 on Maui.  Twelve are Hawaii residents, and one, there is not information about whether they are a resident.  Of the cumulative total of 530 statewide cases,  359 have been released from quarantine and are no longer being monitored by State DOH.

Ages of the victims:

0-19:     19

20-39:  171, with 5 of those needing hospitalization (2.9%)

40-59:  190, with 11 of those needing hospitalization (5.8%)

60 or older:  150, with 29 of those needing hospitalization (19%)
