The visitor count to Kona jumped up yesterday, Tuesday, April 14, with 12 visitors on the one flight that landed at  Kona International Airport.  There are no flights coming into the Hilo Airport, which is why only Kona is shown on the Hawaii Tourism Authority chart.

The visitors arrived despite Hawaii County Mayor Kim now shutting down vacation rentals.  However, in a previous discussion with Ross Birch, head of the Hawaii Island Visitor Bureau, he noted that “visitors” could include family members of those who live on the island, and may not be actual stranger visitors.  There were also 6 “intended new residents,” again, with no additional information, plus 10 residents.  Six visitors arrived on Maui, and 101 on O’ahu.

The chart only covers flights from out of state, and not interisland travel.
