The State Department of Health says they have confirmed one more positive case of COVID-19 in connection with the McDonald’s location at the Kona Walmart.  This brings to 13 the total number of cases associated with McDonald’s on Makala Blvd. in Kona Commons and at Walmart to 13.

DOH is continuing to monitor employees and family members of the initial positive COVID-19 case, all of whom are in isolation or quarantine.  Dr. Bruce Anderson said one of the positive COVID-19 people was flown to O’ahu for care.

Both restaurants (at Kona Commons and at Walmart in Kailua-Kona) are temporarily closed.   The McDonald’s on Kuakini Highway at Kalani Street (ie Hamburger Hill) remains open for drive-through meals.

State DOH says there is low-risk to the public, as only workers or their family members were identified as close contacts.  DOH Director Dr. Bruce Anderson has said the restaurants were practicing social distancing between customers and workers, and the restaurants had shields between the customers and the workers.
