There are 12 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, as of noon on Friday, April 17, according to the State Department of Health.   That includes 3 new cases for Hawaii County, bringing the Big Island’s count to 44.  State Department of Health says 30 people in the Big Island’s count have been released from isolation, leaving 14 active cases.  Statewide, the death toll has not increased.  Oahu has lost 6 people and Maui County, 3, for a total of 9 deaths in the state.

Statewide, 390 of the 553 cases have been released from isolation, leaving 163 active cases under State DOH monitoring.  DOH says 48  people have required hospitalization.  Although Hawaii County’s report says nobody required hospitalization, State Health Director Bruce Anderson confirmed a reporter’s inquiry this week that one person infected in the McDonald’s Kona (Kona Commons and WalMart) was transported to O’ahu for treatment.  That outbreak now includes 13 people, both employees and family members of the initial victim.  Both McDonald’s remain closed, but the Kuakini Highway/Kalani Street location is open for drive-through service.

The State Department of Health will release additional information later today.
