Hawaii State Department of Health says since Monday, Hawaii had only 2 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed, following only 4 new cases the day before.  Both new cases were in Maui County.  Hawaii County had no new cases and State Department of Health says Hawaii County’s count stands at 64, with 38 people released from isolation.

Today’s report includes the two deaths announced earlier today. Both were men 65 or older with underlying health conditions–one on Maui and one on O’ahu.  In Monday’s media update, Lt. Governor Dr. Josh Green said Hawaii has a .7% mortality rate, second lowest in the United States behind Wyoming.

Statewide, out of 586 total cases, 437 have recovered (75%), and 56 have had to be hospitalized.  State DOH Director Bruce Anderson has said one of the COVID-19 victims connected with the McDonald’s Kona outbreak, which now includes 30 people, had to be hospitalized.  The hospitalization is not shown in Hawaii County’s numbers, although Anderson has stated twice in press briefings that it should be.

Regarding testing, the total number of individuals tested in Hawaii by state and private laboratories is 24,543.  The negatives: 23,927, with 582 positive and 34 inconclusive.   Some residents have been tested out of state.

Cumulative totals as of 12:00 noon on April 21, 2020.  The two charts below each have slightly different displays of information.
