New York has had the most cases of COVID-19, with the New York State Public Health Department reporting  282,143 cases and 16,599 deaths.

In a Saturday morning press conference, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the trend is in general downward for new cases, new intubations, and deaths, though the state did have 437 deaths.  Governor Cuomo said the deaths continue to be “terrible, terrible news.”  He said the state’s focus now is on testing, now at about 20,000 per day.

The most recent report from the Hawaii State Department of Health on Friday says the state has 601 cases (469 recovered), with 5 new reported on Friday.  Fourteen people have died, all on O’ahu and Maui.   The State says Hawaii County has 69 cases with 40 recovered.  One Big Island resident is hospitalized at Kona Community Hospital and State Health Director said one person associated with the McDonald’s Kona cluster of cases was flown to O’ahu for treatment and hospitalization, though that number is not shown in the Hawaii Island hospitalizations.  At least 32 of the island’s cases are reported as related to the McDonald’s cluster.

Hawaii has a statewide “stay at home” order with residents told to stay home unless going out for essential shopping, medical appointments, or exercise.  Everybody is ordered to wear a mask in stores and when near others, and to continue staying at least 6 feet away from others no matter where you are.    Screening and testing sites are set up around the island, including today at Kamehameha Park in Kapa’au from 9 until 1 and at Aloha Kona Urgent Care in Pottery Terrace in Kailua-Kona from 9 until 1.  Click here for testing information islandwide.
