County releases hazard mitigation plan–sets online meeting for comments

Hawaii County has released a draft of the updated Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, prepared for the County by the company Tetra Tech out of O’ahu.

The plan deals with a number of potential hazards to the island, including climate change, hurricanes, tsunami, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, droughts, floods, and more–including pandemics.

Hawai‘i County Civil Defense invites residents and other stakeholders to review and comment on the recently completed draft update to the Hawai‘i County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.  The 14-day public review period of the Draft Plan begins on May 19, 2020 and ends on June 2, 2020 at 5:00 p.m., HST.

The County will have an online presentation about the Draft Plan and opportunities to receive public comment will be provided during this comment period at:

Wednesday, May 27, 2020, 5:00 p.m. HST

Talmadge Magno, Civil Defense Administrator, said the County is paying Tetra Tech $153,000 for the rewrite of the County’s Multi Hazard Mitigation Plan.  The County received a grant from the FEMA Pre-Disaster Mitigation Program for $114,750 and the County funded $38,250 as our in-kind match.
