The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Thursday morning, May 27, at 6:32 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 5,731,837    Worldwide deaths:  356,606

U.S. cases:  1,703,989   U.S. deaths:  100,651

The U.S. case count increased by 18,034 since Wednesday, and the milestone of passing 100,000 deaths came with 1,387 new deaths reported in the country since Wednesday.

Most states are in the process of reopening businesses.

In Hawaii, the one new case yesterday was on the Big Island, but in the last two weeks the increases have been either zero or in the low single digits, with 12 new cases over the past 17 days. Kaua’i has had no new cases since April 11.  The State’s cumulative total is 644, but 600 have been released from isolation, as of Wednesday noon.  The state’s deaths, at 17, means Hawaii has the lowest mortality rate in the country.

Lt. Gov. Dr. Josh Green notes with the flattest COVID-19 curve in the country, the state is in the best condition to reopen.  Part of the concern about reopening is whether hospitals could handle a surge.  L.G. Green says the hospitals are in excellent shape with adequate regular hospital beds, ICU beds, and ventilators.

Green says the state has conducted 45,746 COVID-19 tests, with a 1.42% positive test rate.
