The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Friday morning, May 28, at 6:32 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 5,867,727    Worldwide deaths:  362,238

U.S. cases: 1,729,185     U.S. deaths:  101,963

The case count in the U.S. rose by 25,196 in the last day.  The deaths rose by 1,312.

All states are in the process of reopening.   Right now, 15 states are adding to case counts, 10 are holding steady, and 25 are decreasing.

The Hawaii State Department of Health says the state has 647 cumulative cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday at noon, with 604 no longer being monitored. Hawaii has had 17 deaths, which Lt. Gov. Dr. Josh Green points out is the lowest mortality rate in the country.  Hawaii Island has 82 cumulative cases with none active.

Government officials say one of the reasons for the low case count is the 14-day traveler quarantine, which applies to any traveler coming in from out of state or traveling interisland.  On Thursday, Governor David Ige said he plans on extending the traveler quarantine on those coming in from out of state, and will make the announcement later.  He said he wants to loosen restrictions on interisland travel and said he will make an announcement on that soon, too.  Requirements to wear masks in stores and when close to others, plus the need to stay at least 6 feet from others will continue.

Hawaii is not alone in having some kind of incoming traveler restrictions.  According to USA Today, there are 19 other states with either required or recommended 14-day quarantines for travelers, both residents and non-residents of those states.  Some are aimed at travelers from states with high COVID-19 case counts.
