The Monday morning, June 1 Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard at 7:32 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 6,222,709     Worldwide deaths:  373,234

U.S. cases: 1,797,457    U.S. deaths: 104,584

Between Sunday and Monday, the reported cases of COVID increased by 18,942, and the reported deaths increased by only 533 — both low numbers compared with previous days.  The U.S. still leads the world, by far, in both cases and deaths.   Click here for a previous story that has numbers of cases and deaths for countries with the next highest cases and deaths, plus South Korea, with a population of 51 million that has had only 270 reported deaths.

Hawaii has a cumulative 652 cases, with 608 released from isolation according to the State Department of Health.  Hawaii Island has had 81 cumulative cases, with none active as of noon on Sunday.

As of today, Big Island restaurants and many other businesses may reopen, with COVID-19 precautions.  On Sunday, New West Broadcasting talked with the owner of Jackie Rey’s ‘Ohana Grill (Hilo and Kona) and the manager of Foster’s Kitchen in Kona, about both the Kona and Waikoloa locations and how they are reopening today.   They and other restaurants have implemented changes that will meet the requirements needed to reopen, but in different ways.
