The State Department of Health’s noon report on Friday shows 15 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 706.  One week ago, Friday June 5, the state had 664 cases–the case count has jumped up 42 in one week.  All of today’s new cases are on O’ahu.  Ten of the recent cases are said to be within one family.

Dr. Josh Green has said he believes the current case spike is likely a result of gatherings over the Memorial Day weekend and for graduations.  With the recent Black Lives Matter and other protests, if people were not wearing masks and did not stay separated, it is likely cases will increase.

The state’s death toll has not increased, and stands at 17. The first death was reported on March 23.

L.G. Dr. Green has said our state’s hospitals have adequate capacity to handle a surge in COVID-19 cases, if the patients require hospitalization.

Hawaii Island still has 81 cumulative and no active cases; Kaua’i has 21 cumulative and no active cases; Maui County has had 120 cumulative cases with 113 released from isolation.

Below is the state’s noon tally:

*Positive cases include presumptive and confirmed cases, and Hawaii residents and non-residents; data are preliminary and subject to change. Note that CDC provides case counts according to states of residence.

†Includes cases that meet isolation release criteria (Isolation should be maintained until at least 3 days (72 hours) after resolution of fever and myalgia without the use of antipyretics OR at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset, whichever is longer). (The cases that have died and one case that has left the jurisdiction have been removed from these counts).

‡One case is a Lanai resident whose exposure is on Maui Island and who will be remaining on Maui Island for the interim.

††As a result of updated testing information, one case was removed from the counts.
