The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Thursday morning, June 25, at 8:41 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 9,494,571   Worldwide deaths: 484,155

U.S. cases: 2,398,491   U.S. deaths:  122,238

According to the Dashboard, the worldwide cases increased by 170,639 in the last 23 hours, and confirmed worldwide deaths grew by 4,940.

According to the Dashboard, the United States has added 33,617  cases in the last 23 hours, and deaths attributed to COVID-19 have increased by 576.  The case count is significantly higher than the recent 14-day average of around 25,000, and the deaths are about average.

Health and government officials in several states where the cases are going up are quite concerned.  Texas Governor Gregg Abbott has just announced a pause in reopenings, which includes pausing elective surgeries at some hospitals to ensure there is room for COVID-19 patients.  The Washington Post says 7 states have reached some of their highest case counts–Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Missouri, Nevada, and South Carolina.   Many of the cases are in younger people, under 30.

The CDC held a press conference via telephone this morning.  CDC Director Robert Redfield says he believes that there are 10 unconfirmed cases for every known case of COVID-19.
