The Hawaii Island Food Basket, the island’s only food bank, will provide bags of food today for anybody who needs it at Waikoloa Elementary School, starting at 10 a.m.  It will continue until noon or until the food supply is depleted.  Food Basket Director Kristin Frost Albrecht welcomes anybody, even if this is their first time, since many people are experiencing unemployment and food insecurity for the first time ever.  She also has expressed appreciation to all the foundations and individuals who have the means and are donating money to help their neighbors via hawaiifoodbasket.org

Those needing food are asked to drive in and stay in their vehicle and volunteers will put the food in the back seat or trunk, so one of those areas should be clear to receive the food.

Here is the Hawaii Food Basket’s schedule for the month of July:

Waikoloa | Waikoloa Elementary School | Friday, July 10 | 10am

Kohala | Kamehameha Park | Wednesday, July 15 | 10am

Hookena | Hookena Elementary School | Friday, July 17 | 10am

Pahoa | Pahoa Community Center | Friday, July 17 | 10am

Volcano | Cooper Center | Wednesday, July 22 | 10am

Kona | Kekuaokalani Gymnasium | Thursday, July 23 | 10am

Honokaa | Honokaa Sports Complex and Skate Park | Friday, July 24 | 10am
