The state continues to see double-digit increases in new reported and confirmed cases of COVID-19.   Today there are 28 newly-reported cases, bringing the state’s total to 1,158, with 847 released from isolation, i.e. people no longer being monitored by the State Department of Health.  According to State DOH, isolation should be maintained until at least 72 hours after resolution of fever and muscle pain and ache without the use of aspirin or Tylenol OR at least 10 days have passed since symptom onset, whichever is longer.

Kaua’i added no new cases today.  There is one new case in a Hawaii resident currently on the mainland.

The Big Island has added one case since yesterday, bringing the county’s total cases to 98, with 89 released from isolation so 9 active cases.  One person is currently in the hospital, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense’s morning report.

Maui County has added one case, for a cumulative total of 131 and 116 released from isolation.

O’ahu has the largest population in the state, at around 980,000 per the U.S. Census Bureau.  The island also has the most cumulative cases of COVID-19 at 867, which includes 25 new cases today.  State DOH says 606 have been released from isolation.

The state has added no new deaths, with that number still at 19.

Although Hawaii has a relatively low overall case count, the increase in cases is concerning all state officials.    Cases on the mainland hit new highs every day, with more than 60,000 new cases each on Wednesday and Thursday.  Although Governor David Ige did announce a reopening of travel from out of state on August 1 with suspension of the 14-day quarantine for those presenting negative COVID-19 tests, this morning he announced he and the Mayors have reached no conclusion yet on whether to proceed with that date nor how to do it.
