Hawaii has 152 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, as of noon on Sunday, August 9.  The state’s total case count is 3,498, with 1,919 active cases.

Hawaii County has 3 more cases than yesterday, with 15 active cases, according to Hawaii State Department of Health.

Kaua’i and Maui County also each added one case.

O’ahu added 147 new cases.  The island now has 1,848 active cases of COVID-19.

Because of the high case count, especially on O’ahu, Gov. David Ige has reinstated the 14-day travel quarantine for anybody traveling to a neighbor island.  In a conversation just recorded with Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim, he said after making that announcement on Thursday, on Friday he decided that each County will make its own rules regarding any exemptions from the interisland travel quarantine, and Mayor Kim said that is what he and the team at Hawaii County Civil Defense are working on, to develop new policies for the hundreds of exemption requests which come in every day.  That interview will be posted shortly.

One bright spot:  no new deaths from COVID-19 have occurred since yesterday, so the state’s death toll from the virus stands at 31.
