Hawaii State Department of Health says the state has added 169 new cases of COVID-19.  The total case count in the state is now 6,769 with 4,458 active cases.

The Big Island has 9 new cases.   The state Department of Health says there are 65 active cases of COVID-19 on the island (see detail, below).  Hilo Medical Center Public Information Officer Elena Cabatu confirmed there are 10 people with COVID-19 in the hospital as of today at noon.

The other cases today include zero on Kaua’i,  10 in Maui County, and 150 on O’ahu.

Two additional members of the Hawaii community have died from COVID-19, both on O’ahu, bringing the state’s death toll to 49.

Late last week, Maui Mayor Mike Victorino he might need to impose new restrictions, and if so, would expect to announce them today.   Last Friday evening, Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim said no gatherings on the island may be more than 10 people, inside or out, though he exempted family members from the same household and any “faith-based worship services”  from that requirement.

O’ahu currently has restrictions on the number of people allowed in establishments, and parks and beaches and hiking trails are closed.
