Starting today, the County Vehicle Registration and Licensing Offices will take no walk ins and serve customers by appointment only.  The Department of Finance has implemented this new procedure because  COVID-19 cases on the island are surging, and the Mayor’s most recent Rule 11 limits gatherings to 10 people.

Appointments will be available at all the Registration and Driver’s License offices.

Face coverings must be worn,  and customers must adhere to the recommended 6-foot social distancing at all times.  Only those customers receiving services will be allowed inside the lobby, and minors or those needing additional assistance may have one additional person accompany them, if needed.

Appointments for both vehicle registration and driver’s license transactions may now be scheduled online at https://vehicleregistrationlicensing.as.me.

For vehicle registration renewal, there are options that do not require going into one of the county offices:

  • online https://mvr.ehawaii.gov/renewals/lookup.html?county=hawaii
  • at one of our Kiosks (Hilo and Kona Safeway, Waimea Foodland, at the County of Hawai’i Aupuni Center Lobby)
  • or by mail (101 Pauahi St, Suite 5, Hilo 96720)

If you have traveled off-island within the past 14 days, have a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, are feeling sick, or have taken a COVID-19 test without receiving the results, please don’t schedule an appointment nor come to the office.

There is more at the county’s website:   https://www.hawaiicounty.gov/departments/finance/vehicle-registration-licensing
