Hilo Med Center: 11 COVID patients (3 ICU); 41 COVID residents at Vets Home–1 passes

Hilo Medical Center update, as of Friday, September 4, 2020, at 1:15 p.m.:

·         HILO MEDICAL CENTER UPDATE (as of 1:15 pm on Friday, September 4, 2020)

o   11 total COVID-positive patients are hospitalized: 3 in ICU, 8 in COVID Unit

o   5 total staff from various departments have notified us of their positive COVID test results, most likely contracted in the community. COVID-positive employees are quarantining at home. Each case continues to be managed by contact tracing, appropriate testing, and monitored by Employee Health.

o   Self-collection test kits are available to clinical staff involved in direct care of COVID patients.

o   Staff concerned that they may have been exposed to COVID may contact Employee Health for an assessment and to schedule an appointment for COVID testing.

o   COVID testing for Extended Care Facility staff is scheduled for next week per new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requirements to protect nursing home residents – THERE ARE NO CASES OF COVID IN EXTENDED CARE.

 

·         YUKIO OKUTSU STATE VETERANS HOME UPDATE (as of 1:15 pm on Friday, September 4, 2020)

o   A total of 47 residents and 18 employees have tested positive for COVID-19

§  0 residents are currently hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center

§  41 total residents are currently cared for at the veterans home’s COVID designated area

§  1 death from the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home occurred on Thursday, September 3 in the late evening and was not included in yesterday’s update. 6 total deaths related to COVID-19 with significant, underlying health issues. We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of these veterans who served our country.

 

According to Lynn Scully of North Hawaii Hospital, that facility has no COVID-19 patients.  Judy Donovan of Kona Community Hospital says that facility still has one COVID-19 patient.  So the island has 12 total patients in the hospital.
