The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Friday, September 4, at 5:28 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:   26,383,872       Worldwide deaths: 870,126

U.S. cases:  6,166,939    U.S. deaths:  186,984

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 309,263 in the last 24 hours.  Deaths worldwide increased by more than 5,973.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 51,663 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 1,026.

On Thursday the State Department of Health reported  the state’s cumulative count after adding 211 new confirmed COVID-19 cases is 9,202. There are at least 6,345 active cases of COVID-19 in the State. The State Department of Health report lists 79 deaths, though there is at least one man from Hawaii Island whose death was confirmed Thursday by Hilo Medical Center who is not in the official count yet.  The Big Island has lost 5 members of the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home in Hilo to the virus.

Hawaii County yesterday had 17 new cases, for a cumulative count of 435, and 226 active cases.

Even though most cases are in East Hawaii at this moment, Kona Community Hospital had one patient overnight on Wednesday and said at least 8 people had been confirmed positive as a result of a gathering in Miloli’i.   The island’s state legislators asked for Miloli’i to be shut down, with nobody allowed into the community other than residents, but Mayor Kim has said no.  His goal is to avoid shutting down the island, although all beaches and parks–County and State–are now closed through September 18, to avoid tempting people to have large gatherings since those gatherings are the source of much of the spread.
