The State is reporting 66 new cases of COVID-19 in the state.  The state’s cumulative count is now 10,025, with around 6,874 active cases.  This is the lowest case count addition since August 2.

On Monday, 105 cases were added.  One of the big concerns in the state is overwhelming hospital capacity, and on Monday, Lt. Gov. Dr. Josh Green said he believes if the state can add 150 or fewer cases daily, the hospital capacity should be fine.

The state had two more deaths, one in Maui County and one on O’ahu.

On the Big Island, there are only 6 new confirmed cases, with 523 cumulative and 285 active.  The State Department of Health is only reporting 3 deaths on the island, despite the fact that there are more known and confirmed by Hilo Medical Center.

The island has lost 8 people, as of yesterday, to COVID-19, all residents at the Yukio Okutusu Veterans Center in Hilo.  The first death occurred on Saturday, August 29, just ten days ago.  On Monday, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz asked via letter that Gov. Ige ask the Veterans Administration for assistance, and sent a second letter to Robert Wilke, VA Secretary, to help with infection control, providing Personal Protective Equipment, and advice.  Although Mayor Harry Kim told Hawaii News Now on Monday that no help was needed, that he felt the State could and would investigate the situation and provide help, the Honolulu Star Advertiser quoted officials of Avalon Healthcare, which runs the facility, and Hilo Medical Center CEO Dan Brinkman as saying they would welcome additional resources from the VA.   Avalon has already brought in additional staff from O’ahu to assist.

Today’s report adds zero cases for Kaua’i, 2 for Maui County, and 58 for O’ahu.
