COVID: US 6.6M cases, 197,763 deaths

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Friday, September 18, at 5:22 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:  30,241,377    Worldwide deaths: 947,266

U.S. cases:    6,681,251   U.S. deaths:  197,763

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 315,408 in the last 24 hours.  Deaths worldwide increased by  5,190.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 40,711 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 672.

Internationally, cases in Europe are increasing.  Some places in France have infection rates at around 10%.  The World Health Organization and CDC have said it’s desirable to have an infection rate at 5% or less.

In Hawaii, the total case count is 11,105.  The state is now reporting 107 deaths from COVID, which includes only 3 of Hawaii Island’s total deaths.  There are approximately 6,750 active cases statewide. 

The Big Island has suffered 18 deaths, 17 of them in residents at the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home.  The island’s cumulative case count is 623 with around 186 active cases.
