The State Department of Health has confirmed 77 new cases of COVID-19 for the state, bringing the state’s total count to 11,403, with approximately 6,524 active.  The State DOH is reporting 120 deaths.  That includes 15 of the Big Island’s deaths, not the full 24 reported by Hilo Medical Center and the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home.  State DOH has said it has to independently confirm the cause of any death before adding it to the state’s count.

The Big Island has added 5, the lowest count in weeks.  The island’s cumulative count is 644, with approximately 167 active.  In addition, the state says the island has 8 “probable” cases (see chart at very bottom).

The island, as of Saturday evening, has had 24 deaths from COVID-19, as reported by Hilo Medical Center.  The afternoon report said 22 were residents at the Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home, and two were other community members who passed away at HMC from COVID-19.  As of Saturday afternoon, Hilo Medical Center had 17 people in the hospital with COVID-19.    This morning Hawaii County Civil Defense reported the hospitalizations now number 16.  For Saturday afternoon’s detailed Hilo Medical Center/Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home update, click here.

The State’s detailed Sunday noon report, followed by a new report showing the “probable” cases for each island in addition to those already confirmed.  Today’s case count additions are lower than recently, but Sundays and Mondays have typically had lower case counts.
