**Sgt. Joseph Stender confirmed that as of 11 a.m, Ali’i Drive is open in both directions.

Hawaii County Police closed Ali’i Drive in both directions around 12:30 a.m. at Lunapula Street, because of a downed power pole around 1.5 miles south of Kailua Village.  The road is closed at the south end at Royal Poinciana.

Local traffic, people needing to get to destinations without going past the power pole, is being allowed in.

Traffic on Royal Poinciana, Lako Street, Lunapule, and connecting roads is quite congested as of 9:30 a.m.

Hawaii County Police Sgt. Joseph Stender said he’s waiting now to hear an estimated time the power pole will be repaired and traffic will be restored to normal flow.  This story will be updated at that time.
