The State Department of Health says there are 52 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today as of noon, bringing the state’s total to 12,854 with around 2,227 active.

The State has 157 confirmed deaths, according to its latest release.  The Big Island has 32 deaths, according to Hilo Medical Center’s release on Sunday– 27 from the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home and 3 from the general community at the Hilo Medical Center, and 2 at Life Care Center of Hilo.  The State DOH is only reporting 15 of the Big Island’s deaths, so far.

The Big Island added 10 cases today.   The island added  68 cases between Saturday and today.  That brings the island’s total to 820.  The island’s active cases (total–820– minus those released from Dept. of Health monitoring–639– minus the deaths–32) is around 149.

There may be people with COVID-19 in the community who have the virus but have not been tested or perhaps are waiting for results, and some of them may have no symptoms.  Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim continues to urge people to wear masks, stay apart from others, avoid large gatherings, wash hands frequently, and get tested.  The County has set up testing around the island.  For the latest schedule, click here.

Hawaii County Civil Defense said this morning there are 12 hospitalized on the Big Island.  Yesterday, there were 16–12 confirmed by the hospital at Hilo Medical Center, 2 confirmed by the hospital at Kona Community Hospital, and 2 elsewhere, with North Hawaii Community Hospital refusing to report, saying to announce how many patients with COVID-19 it had would be a violation of patient privacy.

Elsewhere as counted by the state, there are no new cases out of state in Hawaii residents, none new in Kaua’i County, one new in Maui County, and 41 new on O’ahu.
