A reminder that tomorrow, the Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area (formerly the Mauna Kea Recreation Area) at the top of Saddle Road, just on the Hilo side of Pohakuloa Training Area, will be closed from 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for vector control operations.  Dustun Gomes, Maintenance Supervisor, said they’ll be spraying for ants and other insects.

The Gilbert Kahele Recreation Area is the usual place for people to stop if they travel between Hilo and Kona and they need a restroom.

Gomes said there is a close alternate location for restrooms, which is on the Mauna Loa side of the Mauna Kea Access Road, at the hunter station check in.  Gomes said those portable luas are always available for public access.
