COVID: world cases 36M, US 7.5M; US deaths 212K

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard for Thursday, October 8, at 5:23 a.m.:

Worldwide cases:  36,265,982   Worldwide deaths: 1,057,505

U.S. cases: 7,560,010   U.S. deaths:  212,103

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 359,641 in the last 24 hours.  Deaths worldwide increased by 6,059.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 53,267 cases in the last 24 hours.  In that time,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 995.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the State Department of Health said there are 13,045 cases of COVID-19, with around 2,309 active cases.

The Big Island’s total count of COVID-19 cases is 852, with 163 active cases.  But the island’s deaths are rising, with a total of 35 people dying from COVID-19.  Kona Community Hospital reported its first death, of a person who came into the Emergency Room on Monday.  There is no information about that person–age, gender, etc.  Hilo Medical Center’s daily report yesterday included the deaths of 5 community members, 27 residents from Yukio Okutsu Veterans Home, and 2 people who were at Life Care Center of Hilo.  One of the recent deaths was in a 67-year-old man who had previously been normally fit and healthy.
