Today, the State Department of Health confirmed 90 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 14,553 cases, with around 2,995 active.

No new cases were reported in out-of-state residents.  Kaua’i County added no new cases.

O’ahu, with the biggest population in the state, added 58 cases.

Maui County added 16 cases.  Last evening, Mayor Mike Victorino confirmed that as of Friday there were 65 cases of COVID-19 on the island of Lanai, and Rep. Lynn deCoite said that the cases were mostly result of gatherings for a funeral or parties.   Mayor Victorino said he has asked the Governor to approve an island “stay at home” order to be effective for 14 days, starting this Tuesday at 12:01 a.m.

On the Big Island, with 16 new cases, the total is now 1,170 cases, with 297 active cases.  Mayor Harry Kim said the island’s positive cases are distributed throughout the districts, and are generally the result of gatherings.  Elena Cabatu of Hilo Medical Center said many of the cases are in people 40 or younger, those less likely to need hospitalization.   Hawaii County Civil Defense says 10 people are hospitalized on the island with COVID-19.  Both Hilo Medical Center and Kona Hospital have confirmed they have people hospitalized with COVID-19.  North Hawaii Community Hospital says they will not release a number, as to do so, in their opinion, violates HIPPA privacy regulations, even though nobody is asking to confirm names, ages, genders, locations of residence, or any other personally-identifiable information.

The State Department of Health is reporting 212 confirmed deaths, which includes 28 of the Big Island’s known 40 deaths.
