Property owners who comply with the County of Hawaii’s Affordable Rental Housing Program requirements may apply for a reduction in real property taxes for the July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022 tax period. Applications are due by December 31, 2020.  Owners are required to submit an application annually.

Hawaii County is trying to encourage property owners to help provide affordable rental housing with a housing shortage on the island and more people having lost their employment during the pandemic.

The rental agreement must be for six months or longer, and depending on the island’s zip code, rents range from $840 to $920 for one bedroom to $1,403 to $1,643 for four bedrooms.  Details are on the rental application.

For the application for property tax relief for the 2021-2022 Tax Year (July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022) under the Affordable Rental Housing Program, click here.

If you have questions, call the County of Hawaii, Real Property Tax office at 961-8201 or 323-4880.
