The Johns Hopkins COVID Dashboard for Friday, November 6 at 5:24 a.m.:

Worldwide cases: 48,885,919      Worldwide deaths:  1,236,707

U.S. cases: 9,623,471   U.S. deaths:  235,056

According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 624,021  in the last 24 hours.  Deaths worldwide increased by 9,041.

In Europe, many countries are seeing highs and beginning to impose or re-impose restrictions, including “stay at home” rules requiring people to be home unless out on essential business.  The BBC is reporting that France has imposed such an order, and in Paris, there are also curfews.  In Germany, gatherings are limited to two households with no more than 10 people, large venues (movie theaters, malls) are closed, and restaurants are only allowed to have takeout service.  Italy, Spain, Belgium, and Portugal are all imposing new restrictions.  Click here for the full BBC story.

According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 128,573 cases in the last 24 hours. This is the highest daily case count recorded since the pandemic began.   In the last day,  the number of reported deaths from  COVID-19 increased by 1,279.

USA Today is reporting that hospitals are overwhelmed, as the US adds a new COVID-19 case every second. The lack is often not in beds, but with a staff that is exhausted and depleted.  The publication says “The head of the Utah Hospital Association this week warned the situation is getting so dire that hospitals there might soon need to ration care.”

The U. S. continues to lead the world in cases and in deaths.  Click on the attached map to enlarge it; there is a list of other countries’ cases on the left side.

In Hawaii, there are approximately 3,347 active cases out of a total of 15,572 COVID-19 cases.  The Big Island’s total is 1,356 with 343 active.  This island has lost 48 people to COVID-19.  Click here for Thursday’s state report.
