The first Big Island Virtual Christmas Light Parade is looking for participants.  Yep, our island’s Christmas parades will not be the same.   Waimea Community Association has been one of the sponsors of the Waimea Twilight Christmas Parade that also benefits the Big Island Giving Tree–and this year, they’re inviting everybody on the island to participate, albeit in a different way.  Although the Waimea Christmas Parade is cancelled, the organizers are putting together a virtual event for the whole island.

Anybody is interested is invited to submit a 20 second video of their home interior or exterior, business or vehicle, decked out in holiday décor.  The  video clips will be edited and compiled into one longer video featuring background holiday music from our Hawaii Island recording artists.  Submissions will be grouped by location (ie, Kohala, Honokaa, Pa’auilo, Pahala, Kona, Hilo, etc.).  The deadline for submission is December 10, 2020.

In addition, the sponsors are asking everybody to make a donation to the Big Island Giving Tree, which directs its help only to Big Island families.    Right now, the focus is on taking food boxes to rural communities like Kohala, Ocean View, Pahoa, and Honoka’a.   To donate or to learn more about Big Island Giving Tree, click here.

Big Island Virtual Christmas Light Parade will be viewable via social media platforms (Facebook & Instagram) beginning December 20, 2020.

For more information on how to enter,  email  BIVCLP@gmail.com.   Or get all the details about how to enter:   BIVCLP-welcome-letter
