(AP) — The Hawaiʻi National Guard will send 200 troops to Washington, D.C., to help support the peaceful transition of power. Hawaiʻi Gov. David Ige’s office issued a news release saying the Guard members will arrive before Inauguration Day next week and will help local law enforcement. Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Kenneth Hara says the request for help from the National Guard Bureau came Wednesday, and soldiers reported the following day. Separately, the state Department of Accounting and General Services told lawmakers and others with offices in the Hawaiʻi State Capitol that it would further tighten access to the building because of threats to state capitols across the country.
