Kahaluʻu Bay Education Center/The Kohala Center

The Kahaluʻu Bay Education Center/The Kohala Center, Raw Elements and Target have partnered in a reef-friendly sunscreen dispenser program at Kahaluʻu Beach Park, which launches January 23.

Raw Elements is a safe sunscreen choice for park visitors interested in preserving the coral reef.  On January 17, 2021, Target began selling Raw Elements products at their Hawaiʻi stores.

A statement from the KBEC/Kohala Center states they have been working diligently to reduce the amount of chemical sunscreens in the bay since April 2018 after Dr. Craig Downs analyzed Kahalu`u bay’s water and discovered the concentration of oxybenzone was the highest he had ever seen in the world.
