(AP) — Like many other places across the United States, Hawaiʻi is experiencing a resurgence of coronavirus cases. For the seventh day in a row, Hawaiʻi’s new coronavirus case numbers hit triple digits Wednesday, repeating a post-Fourth of July surge last year. Health officials say the spike is associated with the delta variant. The seven-day average in the state of about 1.4 million people is now 113, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Thursday. The positivity rate is 3.5%, which is higher than it was at the same time last year. About 97% of new COVID-19 infections in Hawaiʻi are among unvaccinated people, health officials say. Nearly 60% of the population is fully vaccinated.
