On Friday, July 30, 2021, two brush fires were reported on Big Island.

The first, a runaway wildland fire was reported in the Ka`u District, makai of Highway 11 near the 59 Mile Mark and Ninole Loop Road near Punaluʻu Beach around 7:00 am this morning. HFD units were dispatched, including volunteers, to contain the fire.  The fire is approximately five acres in size and  was reported to be 80 percent contained this afternoon.

A second runaway wildland fire was reported on Mana Road near Parker Ranch land outside of Waimea around 10:45 am this morning. HFD units were dispatched, including volunteers, to contain the fire.  This afternoon it was reported that the fire is generating smoke that can be seen as far away as Waikoloa Village and Hawaiian Homelands in District 9.  The Fire Department is on scene and conducting fire suppression operations.  Driving conditions on Old Saddle Road and Highway 190 may be affected by smoke.  Drivers are encouraged to drive with caution as limited visibility due to smoke may cause hazardous driving conditions in South Kohala.
