Hawaii County authorities have orded the evacuation of Waikoloa Village due to a rapidly spreading brushfire that has burned more than 36,000 acres in the Waiki’i Ranch, Pu’u Kapu Hawaiian Homesteads and highway 190 area.  The order, which was issued at 12:05pm states:

 

• Waikoloa Village – Please take immediate action and gather your personal items and evacuate
• An evacuation center has be established at the old Kona Airport
• Buses will be available for transportation at Waikoloa Village Golf Course and Waikoloa Village Elementary School.
