Hawaiʻi County is developing an Integrated Climate Action Plan to identify how to address climate change causes and impacts to Hawaiʻi Island. The goal is to create a Climate Action Plan grounded in equity and includes strategies that will help us stop what is causing climate change and survive and minimize its effects.

The purpose of this survey is to help the County better understand communities’ points of view on climate change to inform future engagement opportunities. This survey will also give the County a better understanding of how effective outreach efforts are and where improvement is needed to ensure that perspectives of underrepresented communities are included. The next step in the planning process is to work with communities to identify values, actions, and implementation strategies that make sense for Hawaiʻi Island.

In a press release Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth said, “Ensuring our island’s sustainability is the head cornerstone of our administration, and we understand that the only way we will be able to get there is if we all work together, that is why it is of the utmost importance that we continue to seek community input on how we tackle some of the toughest issues of our time, like climate change. Our community is our biggest resource, and we look forward to finding solutions together.”
