(AP) — The four members of Hawai’i’s congressional delegation are asking the Department of Defense’s inspector general to investigate whether the Navy properly investigated and notified state authorities about a Pearl Harbor fuel leak. They are asking the inspector general to examine whether the Navy delayed investigating or notifying state authorities because they were worried doing so would jeopardize a state permit to operate its Red Hill fuel tanks. Sens. Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz and Reps. Ed Case and Kai Kahele made their request in a joint letter to the department’s acting inspector general. The inspector general’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
