Big Island DUI Statistics: November 15-21

During the week of November 15, 2021, through November 21, 2021, Hawai`i Island police arrested 14 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.  Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.  Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.

Thus far in 2021, there have been 962 DUI arrests compared with 884 during the same period in 2020,  an increase of 8.8 percent.

There have been 716 major accidents so far in 2021 compared with 691 during the same time in 2020, an increase of 3.6 percent.

To date, there were 25 fatal crashes, resulting in 25 fatalities, compared with 14 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities for the same time last year.  This represents an increase of 78.6 percent for fatal crashes, and 78.6 percent for fatalities.
