Hawaiian Electric crews are continuing to restore electric service to customers impacted by the storm system currently affecting the state. Gusty winds and fallen trees damaged sections of the island’s transmission and distribution system, causing power outages mostly in the southern portion of Hawai‘i Island.

On Monday, crews restored power to approximately 7,500 customers from Kamaoa to Kealia, Royal Hawaiian Estates, Kurtistown, and Orchid Isle. About 1,200 customers on Wright Road in Volcano are experiencing an extended outage due to numerous problem areas caused by winds and vegetation. Crews also are responding to scattered isolated outages in lower Puna and Kona.

The County of Hawai‘i has opened shelters at the Kea‘au Armory, Na‘alehu Community Center, and Pahala Community Center.

Hawaiian Electric also reminds the community to stay at least 30 feet away from downed power lines. as they are energized and dangerous.

Outage updates are posted on the company’s Twitter account @HIElectricLight.

To report an outage or downed power line, please call (808) 969-6666.
