Bria Beale is the first UH Hilo volleyball player to be named an Academic All-American by CoSIDA and the first Vulcan athlete to receive First-Team Honors.
The CoSIDA All-America teams are made up of the top scholar-athletes in Division II. Only 21 total student-athletes were named to three teams by Division II Sports Information Directors nationwide. The award winners were selected based on equal parts academic and athletic

Beale was selected to the CoSIDA’s 2021 First Team All-America. She graduated with a 3.90 grade point average in Communication, and now has a 4.00 GPA in her graduate program of Psychology and Mental Health Counseling.  She was previously named to CoSIDA’s All-District Team three times, where she was one of eight players recognized in the West Region.

Athletically, Beale has had a phenomenal career at UH Hilo. For the 2021 season, she led the Pacific West Conference in kills per set and points. Beale was a three-time PacWest Player of the Week and reached over 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 service aces for her career. Beale hit over 20 kills in four matches, totaling 320 kills this season. Her season high was 23 kills against Azusa Pacific.

For her performances this season, Beale was named First Team All-PacWest, which was her fourth time receiving that honor. She is one of only 10 other players in the PacWest’s history who has received First Team recognition for four consecutive years. She was also named Second Team All-West Region by D2CCA.  Additionally she was UH Hilo’s first ever semi-finalist for NCAA Woman of the Year.
